Understanding Different Film Types for Trays and Printed Film Lids

Lidding Film

When it comes to food packaging, choosing the right lidding film is essential for ensuring product freshness, shelf appeal, and reliable sealing performance. At Systempak, we supply a wide range of tray lidding films and printed film lids, designed to meet the demands of food manufacturers across multiple sectors.

Below, we explore the different film types available, their benefits, and the importance of conducting sealing trials before mass production.

Printed Film Lids: What is Lidding Film?

Lidding film is a specialised packaging material designed to seal food trays securely, helping to maintain product quality while offering tamper evidence, extended shelf life, and consumer convenience. Depending on the application, lidding films can be weld seal, peelable, or designed with anti-fog properties for clear product visibility.

It should be noted that sealing temperatures and dwell times are for guidance only, as factors such as sealing machine type, ambient conditions, and tray formulation may influence performance. We always recommend conducting your own trials prior to mass production.

Types of Lidding Films Available

1. ECOPET 12/15μ Weld Seal with Anti-Fog

  • Designed for APET, CPET, and rPET trays
  • Sealing temperature: 140°C – 160°C (1–3 seconds dwell time)
  • For CA-PET pressed board trays, requires 180°C – 200°C with higher pressure and 2–5 seconds dwell time
  • Available widths: 140mm, 150mm, 185mm, 210mm, 430mm

This is an excellent option for manufacturers seeking reliable weld sealing combined with anti-fog performance, ensuring product clarity on shelf.

2. PET/PP 12/30μ Weld Seal with Anti-Fog

  • Suitable for all PET trays
  • Sealing temperature: 110°C – 145°C (1–3 seconds dwell time)
  • Available widths: 150mm, 185mm, 210mm, 270mm

This film is ideal for high-volume food production lines, delivering consistent sealing and visibility.

3. PET/PP 12/30μ Peelable Seal with Anti-Fog

  • Designed for easy consumer opening
  • Sealing temperature: 95°C – 145°C (1–3 seconds dwell time)
  • Available widths: 150mm, 185mm, 210mm, 270mm

A perfect choice for ready meals, salads, and products where convenience and peelability are key.

4. Universal 101 AF PET23/35μ Clear PCR (30% Recycled Material)

  • Peelable seal at short dwell times; becomes weld seal at longer dwell times
  • Sealing temperature: 160°C – 200°C (1–3 seconds dwell for most monolayer materials)
  • For pressed board trays: 180°C – 220°C (3–5 seconds dwell time)
  • Available widths: 140mm, 150mm

This eco-conscious option uses post-consumer recycled content, helping businesses move towards more sustainable packaging solutions without compromising performance.

5. Universal 101 AF PET50/12μ 115mm Clear Pinseal Pattern PCR Pre-Cut Lids

  • Pre-cut lidding film solution for fast, consistent application
  • Sealing temperature: 160°C – 220°C (1–2 seconds dwell time)
  • Designed for most monolayer materials
  • Available in 115mm diameter

These lids are ideal for applications requiring precision, speed, and sustainability, as they also include PCR content.

Generic Printed Film Lids

In addition to plain lidding films, we also offer generic printed film lids. These are pre-printed with simple designs and can be used across multiple products, providing:

  • A professional branded appearance without the need for full custom print runs
  • Cost-effective packaging enhancement
  • Consumer confidence through tamper-evident sealing

Why Choose Systempak for Lidding Films?

  • Wide range of tray sealing films suitable for APET, CPET, rPET, PP, and pressed board trays
  • Options include weld seal, peelable, and anti-fog films
  • Sustainable solutions with PCR (post-consumer recycled) content
  • Technical guidance on film selection and application
  • Stock sizes and pre-cut lid options available for fast delivery

All sealing temperature and dwell time information provided is for guidance only. Due to machine variations, tray materials, and production conditions, we strongly recommend that clients conduct their own in-house trials to confirm suitability before mass production.
